First shots with the Leica SL3

After months of waiting, I finally received my SL3. The very next day, I decided to head into the city for some shots. I hadn’t been to circular Quay for a while, so I decided to make a trip over from town hall.

On the way over, I came past a police event (looked like it may have been a funeral? - perhaps related to the recent stabbings in Sydney). There were people all around, and I thought the musicians looked particularly interesting. Below is a picture I captured of a drummer waiting while they set up.

Afterwards, I continued my trip to circular Quay. There were a lot of blockades and work being done for VIVID, so I didn’t find much interesting until I reached the destination, where I saw a lovely older couple enjoying the warm weather.

With the Opera house in the background, I thought it made a lovely image. It also reminded me to slow down, and take in the beautiful day. I walked around the area to take in the surroundings, where I listened to some live guitar music (which I have noticed is everywhere in Sydney to quite a high standard). I continued a little back from the water, as it was rather busy, where I saw someone enjoying a gelato.

With the heat (I am not good with heat), and walking around I had been doing, this picture inspired me to get a gelato myself. Right nearby, I saw a sign saying ‘Gelato’, so I headed into ‘Zini Contemporary Gelato’, and thought I would try them out. I ordered a small pistachio gelato off of a recommendation from a friend, which ended up being rather tasty. At some point, I will do a comparison of Gelato in Sydney, but that is a story for another day. With all the factors, it ended up being an enjoyable first outing with the camera.

There are a few aspects I need to get used to with the SL3, however, most areas seem significantly improved over the SL2. Hopefully, over time I get some amazing images, and enjoy it as much as I enjoyed my time owning the SL2. This outing was also a reminder that we can always get a lot of enjoyment out of doing something small.
